last spread suzanne's cj

i was in charge of the prompt for the month and i asked what else people do when they are not doing this kind of art. the one i am doing most these days is knitting. this is a swatch in fingering weight yarn, US size 10 needles, in garter stitch. i sort of looked for yarn that went with the facing page.

suzanne' cj

this year i decided to do something with letters or initials in each book i do. obviously, this is the suzanne page.

Suzanne's cj

spread two in suzanne's book. i love these picture/ads. i have a few little 4x8 pictures of these ads. and i love the play on words they use. every page has the little "buy enlarge" on it. teehee

oi, enough with the squares, already. but, one of my first and longest lasting loves: black and white and everything in between. yes.
Posted by Picasa

for this one, i went with the colors and my calendar journal for 2007 was escher, so i used a bit of my escher wall calendar on this one. sort of surreal, no?

got a new toy and played with it in this calendar. started with the ad on the left and sort of went square crazy from there.

this was the next calendar. something about american art maybe? bad bad juliet, no notes. so i played with the colors and some fashion designing... in paper, of course.

when i saw this one, i knew that i had to journal about how my brain sometimes feels and have the chihuly piece coming out of someone's head. you've been there, you know you have.
Posted by Picasa
chihuly on the right with the addition of a flutterfaerie and real simple on the right. my fantasy garden, maybe?
Posted by Picasa
embracing the orange, giving it a dali/zetti spin. what can i say, i like it.

ooohhh. this was the chihuly calendar. i had seen his stuff, but did not know his name before seeing this calendar. absolutely amazing stuff. but hard for me to put my own mark on. some of these calendars are that way for me. (as a matter of fact, i chose frida kahlo this year and am thinking people may have some trouble with her art. but there you go. which leads me to remember that i got the dali calendar for myself and have forgotten to get it out and play in it for myself! thanks for the reminder, blogosphere.) anyway, the image on the right hand page is a tablewear ad that i sort of felt compelmented chihuly's work.

there were tarot cards to be used as a sign in tag in this book. which book? i am such a dork i don't remember. better notes in 2008, people! the camera is not as good as i would like so i don't even know what the brad at the bottom reads. hmmmm, create, maybe? lousy seasick-making picture, but it is here for posterity not art i guess. deal with it. i have to.

a little bit of journaling, some transparency action and an ultra thick embossing enamelled slide frame as a frame for a tiny da vinci drawing.
Posted by Picasa
this page is as it was in the calendar. i could not bring myself to do anything to it. i just couldn't.

more da vinci couture. tres chic.
Posted by Picasa

something i came up with for a chunky oddities book a couple of years ago. this is my if da vinci had been a woman clothing designer series. i guess we are still in the da vinci book.

some wings i got when i was in germany from 2002 through 2005. they have some really cool stuff over there. this was some beautiful paper i scored in a swap, i put the enamel stickers in the corners, added some lines and let the wings have center stage, because really, are wings EVER a bit player? i think not.

due to the order in the cue of pictures, i think this was either the da vinci book or the one that came after it. note to self: take better notes and such for this year's round robin of calendars. sheesh

more da vinci. i used little square ink pads to stamp up the background, journaled, and added one of my transparencies. the transparencies were google images printed on my home printer and cut to size. i just buy the transparencies at either staples or wal mart. love them!
Posted by Picasa

aaahhh. the da vinci calendar. man, i love da vinci! i just put some transparencies over the page that was in the book with some of his schematics on it. i just could not try to pit my art against his, you know?

atc's done for a swap with danielle a group and actual friend.

technique postcard for letterheads swap. i googled orange and yellow and this came up. i tore the edges, scraped paint on a 4x6 postcard, did some gold leaf dots and some white highlighting and gloss gel mediumed over the whole thing. i like it. it is so bright.

the tuscany book put me in the mind of gypsys and this is a poem i found when googling.
